OKC in 6, you heard it here first.
phenris wrote:I really want the Mavs to win too, but fuck. Tonight was disappointing. They made some stupid plays and should've had the game in the bag. There was one play in particular when Dirk was taking over and the huge comeback felt imminent - Jason Kidd threw the ball out of bounds trying to get it to Terry.
I think game 3 is gonna be extremely pivotal. I think Caron Butler could've been huge on providing a more consistent second option (Terry is great but feels like he lives and dies by 3pt shots...) and slowing down Durant at least a little.
Dirk gets attention but is often quickly disregarded due to Dallas' inability to perform in the playoffs. Truth be told, he really only choked one year since the Mavs have been a top-tier team. He has improved his overall game every season and actually turns up his game a few notches in the postseason (legendary performance in G1 and even tonight he had a great game). I really would hate for Dirk and J.Kidd to end up on the list of Hall of Fame players without a ring, and this season is probably their best and last shot at it.
He has shot 50%+ from the field last three postseasons (including this one so far), and 57% 3pt last year and 60% (!!!) on threes so far this playoffs.
OKC, Miami, Chicago, and even surprise teams like Memphis are definitely the future of the league. For years Boston, San Antonio and LA (particularly the latter two) have defined the championship-caliber team, and the rest of the league has emulated them. Now as these younger, athletic teams take over, it's time for the storied franchises to adapt.
On a different note, it's interesting to note that WCF is and will continue to be high-scoring, while the ECF is and will be defined by defense.

Oh my god I'm so happy. Been waiting for this for over a decade now.
I agree with you Death, it was so annoying to watch all the commentators go from hyping up the Heat to singing praise for the Mavs after their huge game 5 and 6 wins. Marc Jackson especially was critical of Dirk towards the beginning of the series, and after tonight's win he said he's one of the top 20 to play the game. But that's how the coverage works, so what can you do.
Here's to a strong push next season. I'd be surprised if they could put up the repeat, but you do have to remember that Caron Butler was out all season.
