Im making a footy

Postby Incinerate » Sat Jul 31, 2010 2:59 pm

so i would just like to tell you guys im making a footy like map for sc2 and im about 80% finished with it, im trying to strike a balance where it was fun like 3.8 but not as imba. so i do have creeps playing a big role in the game, however they are not stunner creeps ,they more like great army investments designed at supporting/and damaging other armies. and the techs are quite strong, theres also a cliff mechanic im trying too incorporate so certain special units like heros or maybe some creeps can jump up.

each unit in the tech tree has its own unique ability . Every unit has had its Hitpoints /armor changed.

for e.g
marines-shield
maraders-stim
hellion-igniter
thors-strike cannon

zerg
zerglin-speedling
roach-burrow underground and move
hydra-range upgrade and burrow(cant move)
Ultra-Burrow and has a cleave splash, upgrade gives armor

Toss
zealot-charge
stalker-blink
notsure
immortal- shields

so as you can see the techs all retain thier ladder unqieness.

just need some really well though out Hero ideas for a footmen frenzy like map (not dota type heros, they just dont work, for e.g doing damage based on intelligence is pointless in a game of frenzy) so any body got some decent footy hero ideas?

Right now I haven't played enough campaign/custom games to be able to think about hero ideas, but a hero that works in strict conjunction with its army could be a good approach for a first hero.
I will probably work on a similar map in the future.

one thing for sure, is that the sc2 engine is way more suited for a footmen frenzy style game (mass units) :)

im still working out kinks and just adding mass content, i should have a playable version out in like a week at most. i got 5 heros, a ton of items, and all the techs are set up.. the hard part is actually figuring out what fucking balance to go with.. cause i found sc units just have way too lil hp in general when gettign damaged by spells .. so i had to rebalance all thier hps, then the fact that theres a hardcounter attrubite system, so many weapons needed adjusting.. Taking forever!!! ughh

Im currently representing nohunters footies for sc2 . So im getting a section of there forum etc.. Im trying to make this a big big project.. the work load is so much that i hope i can get some extra help .. if you can make a spell, then you are of use to me , credits will be given and heros named after any helpers..

personally my opinions of the sc2 editor compared to the war3 editor are ..

Galaxy editor - challenging to learn, but if you do get over the learning curve, its actually easier than war3 editor by far, complex spell making is literally broken down into mass ez to fill out fields :), its basically a puzzle, link one piece to another.. No knowledge of any coding required.

World editor- Easy to learn, but hard to do very complex spells in it without extensive jass code knowledge.

Bottom line, sc2 editor fucking rocks

I think the biggest thing with a footies style map is to make it so that AOE heroes can't just nuke mass units at early or mid game, their mass damage can make it easier for your units to kill them quickly, but mass-nuking should be something saved for maximum level spells on low tier units.

Someone said something about heroes in footies needing to be more about unit support to discourage overpowered heroes, and I agree with that.
But support isn't just buffs, debuffs, and healing. If your hero can do the damage of a dozen footmen, he's a support of some kind.

I think Galaxy Editor's object editor is actually geared towards object-oriented programming. You don't actually code or create new classes, but you manipulate objects and their interfaces.

Very cool stuff.

I can't wait to see what you come up with. I would be glad to assist in testing anything...now that I have the game.

one thing i would like to see is a king of the hill mode or something. basically ff but you have to stay and control the middle for a set amount of time to win. not destroy another persons base, which may or may not even be possible.

it would make things different.

another mode that i think would make for complete funness and hilarity would be a 2v2v2v2v2v2 mode. =D

To start out, I wouldn't change the relative hp to spell damage ratio. Units are suppose to die fast to spells. And spells should be game changing and strong. The idea is that spells are hard to cast and are rare since you need to wait for energy.

i saw a reason to change it because i didnt like how little hp units have.. It didnt look convincing to me at all leveling a spell for +2 damage or something in your fireshockwave for e.g. So i boosted the stats and scaled the attacks higher. Units still kill eachother off relativly fast and they dont get 1 shot killed by any aoe. thats the purpose of the boost. I dont really care what is standard and how fast units die in sc2 ladder game. Its a footmen map, you suppose to build up a proper army. not a everything die instantly map where no amounts of money flooded into tech makes a diff.. Ive taken into consideration all the imbalances from warcraft3 footies and solved alot of the issues such as "dispell" , overly strong aoe, last spell scaling way to much in comparison with others etc. The editor is so customizable i have a say on every-single aspect of the game. In warcraft this wasnt the case .. theres no way you can stop dispell from totally getting rid of all summons . In sc2 i can tailor it exact to what i want. I can say exactly which buffs can be dispelled and which buffs stay. i just waiting for the mid patch at September to fix the experience share so i can put something out there.

Dan released his map, now called All Out Warfare, and i must say, it's very well done it mainly needs more content and of course balance changes once we figure out what is imbalanced.

it's super low on the list right now because of the lame popularity system but we should play it sometime.

Just needs some publicity now. Battle.net forums has a custom map section; making a topic there might attract some attention.
